West Midlands Police are looking for Chief Superintendents in major crime, specialist crime, professional standards, intelligence, area commanders and detectives. These roles all require 24/7 hour working.
Chief Superintendent Promotion
Applications are invited from internal and external substantive Superintendents on promotion, as well as transfer opportunities for external substantive Chief Superintendents.
Applicants must be suitably experienced, competent and credible for immediate promotion to rank of Chief Superintendent in the West Midlands Police.
In all but exceptional circumstances, candidates must have a minimum of 2 years’ substantive promotion to the rank of Superintendent and have demonstrated effective leadership across two different command responsibilities at this rank.
West Midlands Police is the second largest police force in the country, covering an area of 348 square miles and serving a population of almost 3 million people.
The region sits at the very heart of the country and covers the three major centres of Birmingham, Coventry and Wolverhampton. It also includes the busy and thriving districts of Sandwell, Walsall, Solihull and Dudley. Leisure, retail and conference amenities, together with Premiership and Championship football teams, attract millions of visitors annually. The West Midlands is an area rich in diversity, attracting an average of 170,000 motorists travel through the region daily, making its motorways some of the busiest in Europe.
The Force deals with around 2,000 emergency calls, 500 Immediate incidents, 250 Priority incidents and around 950 reported crimes each day, which makes working as a Chief Superintendent both challenging and hugely rewarding.

Please include details of your qualifications that relate to firearms command, public order command, PIP Investigation and any other command responsibilities including regional and national command responsibilities.
Application Assessment Question
Please answer the following question, ‘Please demonstrate, how you have the necessary substantive experience, operational competence and leadership credibility for immediate promotion to the rank of Chief Superintendent in West Midlands Police’ (no more than 750 words). Please attach this in the section titled, ‘Supporting Documents/Attachments’.
The Selection Process:
The section process will consist of the following stages:
Application form questionnaire and written evidence submission. This will be used for shortlisting
Short listed candidates will be invited to a People Panel which is made up from our community partners.
The main interview will be in front of the Deputy Chief Constable and Chief Constable which will last approximately 1 hour.
Candidates will be asked to deliver a 10-minute presentation followed by probing questions, and an interview.

Candidates notified of being taken through to interview, week commencing 9th December.
The People Panel interviews will take place between 8th – 15th January 2025
Interviews and presentations will take place between 21st – 27th January 2025. Interview dress will be your usual police uniform or business attire.
