The Science Innovation Technology (SIT) Delivery team forms part of the Home Office Science Directorate. As the Senior Police Adviser, you will supervise a small, dispersed team of Police and operational advisors. The advisor team provide a vital link between SIT Delivery and key Home Office law enforcement stakeholders and delivery partners, including the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL). You will achieve this by advising the SIT Delivery team, stakeholders and partners on strategic and operational policing and security requirements. You will develop and leverage close working relationships with senior policing bodies and their representatives, overseas law enforcement agencies and other government departments as well as stakeholders within industry and academia.
SIT Delivery team is based in London and the postholder will be required to regularly travel to London. The SIT Delivery team follow the Civil Service in committing to at least 60% of the working week in the workplace, with the remainder working an agile working model, utilising IT to maintain team contact. The postholder may work from their local force area where there isn’t a necessity to travel.
Regular UK travel and occasional overseas travel will be necessary.
Suitability Criteria
A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) with background in Major Crime, SOC, Safeguarding or VAWG with a proven track record of leading crime investigation teams. Previous operational experience of critical incident management, firearms, public order, or intelligence would be an advantage.
Knowledge of national policing priorities and objectives along with a sound understanding of NPCC structures including the police science and innovation landscape. The ability to develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships is critical to this role.
You will be expected to lead the advisor team in effective engagement with senior policing customers and partners. You will maintain close working relationships with strategic and operational stakeholders while providing support to senior Home Office officials.
Pensions
Secondees will retain their current pension arrangements.
Allowances
Accommodation is not provided with this post. There will be a requirement for national travel as part of the role. Additional travel costs over and above normal home to office will be reimbursed, subject to agreement and adherence to Home Office policies.
Security
Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is security check (SC).
Successful candidates must be willing to undergo developed vetting (DV) if required.
Nationality statement
Candidates will be subject to UK immigration requirements as well as Civil Service nationality rules.

The successful candidate will be subject to pre-employment checks on, amongst other things; health, finance, nationality before an appointment can be formally offered. It is anticipated that the candidate will start their secondment in April 2025
The secondment period is for 2 years initially but can be extended up to 5 years (maximum) subject to satisfactory performance and agreement by all parties.
