The Science Innovation Technology (SIT) Delivery team forms part of the Home Office Science Directorate. As the Police Adviser for Digital and Data Systems, Cybercrime and Forensic Investigations reporting to the Senior Police Advisor and Digital and Data Account Manager, you will provide a vital link between SIT Delivery team and key Home Office policing stakeholders and delivery partners, including the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL). You will achieve this by advising the SIT Delivery team, stakeholders and partners on strategic and operational policing and security requirements.
You will develop and leverage close working relationships with senior policing bodies and their representatives, overseas law enforcement agencies and other government departments as well as stakeholders within industry and academia.
SIT Delivery team are based in London, the postholder will be required to travel regularly to London and nationally. The SIT Delivery team follow the Civil Service in committing to at least 60% of the working week in the workplace, with the remainder working an agile working model, utilising IT to maintain team contact. The postholder may work from their local force area where there isn’t a necessity to travel.
Regular UK travel and occasional overseas travel will be necessary.
Suitability Criteria
A specialist in police digital and data systems, or cybercrime investigations with a proven track record of securing complex digital data and cyber evidence, business delivery and managing teams.
A good understanding of the broad range of science and technology which police require to manage data, digital and cyber investigations especially in areas of safeguarding, VAWG and sexual offending.
Experience of working with national policing groups with an awareness of the NPCC structures and functions. Current or recent operational experience of the legislation and policies that impact the digital forensic landscape, radio frequency investigations, or data handling. The ability to develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships is critical to this role.

Accommodation is not provided with this post.
There will be a requirement for national travel as part of the role. Additional travel costs over and above normal home to office will be reimbursed, subject to agreement and adherence to Home Office policies.
Security
Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is security check (SC).
Successful candidates must be willing to undergo Developed Vetting if required.
Nationality statement
Candidates will be subject to UK immigration requirements as well as Civil Service nationality rules.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 11th December 2024. Applications received after this date will not be considered. Interviews will commence at the start of January 2025.
The successful candidate will be subject to pre-employment checks on, amongst other things; health, finance, nationality before an appointment can be formally offered. It is anticipated that the candidate will start their secondment in February 2025
The secondment period is for 2 years initially but can be extended up to 5 years (maximum) subject to satisfactory performance and agreement by all parties.
