You will have overall responsibility for leading the police service, creating a vision and setting direction and culture that builds public and organisational confidence and trust, and enables the delivery of a professional, effective and efficient policing service. You will also command and lead the policing response to crime and major and critical incidents.
The Royal St Helena Police (RSHP) comprises of a Chief of Police, a Chief Inspector, three Inspectors (including one Detective Inspector), five Sergeants (including one Detective Sergeant) and 19 Constables (including three Detective Constables) on St Helena and an Inspector, a Sergeant and three Constables on Ascension.
What you’ll do
Setting and implementing strategy for the service, you must advise and nurture relationships with the Governor, Ministers and Senior Public Officials, whilst fulfilling all statutory and legal obligations and building strategic relationships with local, national and international partners. Accountable for financial management and budgets, you will ensure value for money. You must develop and maintain governance arrangements and processes as you lead and command operational policing responses in the highest risk and high-profile instances. You must also maintain and develop the Joint Emergency Services Control Centre, which supports fire, ambulance, sea rescue and maritime responses as well as those relating to RSHP. As you create and drive a culture of development, change and innovation you will represent the service to the public, media and other external stakeholders to build confidence in policing.
What you’ll bring
Holding a Level 6 (degree) qualification or equivalent level of attainment or experience you have passed the Police Promotion Exam to Inspector and are a Tactical Firearms Commander. You have substantial experience as a senior manager/commander at a minimum level of substantive Chief Inspector, with acting or temporary promotion experience as a Superintendent. Substantive Superintendent would be preferable. Inspiring others, you have commanded a range of operational policing incidents and hold a command qualification in the policing of events. Engaging with and influencing multi-agency partnerships you know how to write and implement policy and strategy, inspiring others.
