How To Deal With The Scenario - OSPRE Part 2

How are you going to deal with Constable Foreman?

The first thing you need to be sure about is who are you going to meet? On the first sheet you are told that you will meet Constable FORMAN who has been a shift member for 6 years. Why is this important? I have seen many people prepare to meet a police officer and find a member of the public walk into the room, or prepare to meet a member of the public, and get an equally big shock. It is really important that you prepare to meet the right person.

The next thing you need to consider is 'Who are you?' It is important to remember that you are a Sergeant. That requires a totally different mind set from that of a Constable. Try to develop that mindset. What would you do if you were Constable Foreman's sergeant?

Now if you were a Sergeant what would you want to talk to Constable Foreman about? Make a list of all the things from the Memo from Inspector Barnet that you think are important to discuss with Constable Foreman. (Issues)

Are there any unanswered questions in your work so far? If so make a list of those. (Questions)

Once you have done that make a second list of how you will deal with both of these. (Solutions)

You now have a very basic structure to help you deal with the seven stations you will face.

If you now turn your attention to the Role Actors instructions you will see that you are dealing with an ambitious officer. How are you going to deal with that ambition? Are you going to encourage it, or put a big dampener on this officer's aspirations? What will be the consequences of either course of actions?

How do you intend to deal with the outstanding files and the absences on recruit assessor duties in a team that has shortages of staff at the best of times? You need to make a decision and communicate that decision to your assessor through Constable Foreman

Write down your answers to those questions. Be specific, and then have a look at the Marking Guide. How many of your ideas feature? You should be looking to score two or more in each of the competence areas. Do not score yourself a mark if you are vaguely close to the statement on the marking guide There is a need to be quite specific in your answers. Be honest with yourself and it will give you an indication of how you have done on this station.
